Word For the Day

“ the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.” Max Ehrmann, “Desiderata.”

“Desiderata” is a well-beloved favorite for so many thoughtful people. As the US population cringes in fear at an uncertain and perilous future, those who have taken the uplifting words from this poem to heart are offered a measure of respite. If they have also ordered their lives so as to avoid indulging in the worst excesses of the capitalist imperative and, instead, chosen what some would call a “meager” existence, they are the most likely to be living the beauty and simple wisdom of the message. When the US empire has finally fallen and the carnage that it has inflicted on the world and its own citizens has finally abated, the message will have demonstrated its timeless truths.
